After two of three days of competition, several area bowlers and teams rolled top honors in the 2016 Iowa High School Bowling State Tournament.

On Monday, the Class 1A division competed for a state title. Vinton-Shellsburg scored the boys team state championship. The Vikings rolled a team total of 3,141. LeMars and Maquketa rounded out the Top 3 in team scores.

Nick Stein (Vinton-Shellsburg, Senior) had the top individual overall score with a two-game total of 513 pins. Wil Eick (Oelwein, Senior) ended the day with 457 pins, and Matt Hystad (LeMars, Senior) rounded out the top three with a 450 score.

The Class 1A girls state championship went to Camanche with a score of 2,785. West Delaware was close, but the team had to settled for the runner-up stop with a score of 2,734. Charles City round out the top three.

Mary Ross (Charles City, Sophomore) rolled the best two-game score during the Class 1A girl's competition. Ross rolled a two-game score of 460. Tyra Villalobos (Knoxville, Junior) was second thanks to a 437 score. Alexa Gilleland (Red Oak, Junior) finished third after rolling a 435.

The boys Class 2A team competition saw a tight battle settled by a mere 6 pins. Urbandale held off Waverly-Shell Rock 3,026 to 3,020. Mount Pleasant completed the top three.

Nick Miller (Denison-Schleswig, Junior) topped the Class 2A individual score for the boys with a 505. Finishing second was Jacob Mellott (Urbandale, Junior) rolling a 480. Seth Hanson (Fort Dodge, Junior) ended the day third thanks to his 467 score.

Waterloo East grabbed the girls Class 2A state championship in convincing fashion. East finished the day with a 3,071. Ottumwa finished second 208 pins back. Marion closed out the top three.

Three of the top four individual overall scores during the Class 2A Girls tournament when claimed by Waterloo East bowlers. Leah Frosnt (Waterloo East, Junior) had a two-game pin fall total of 500. Bre Smith (Marion, Senior) was second overall with a score of 482. Junior Alissa Classen and Senior Josie Jacobs, both of Waterloo East, rounded out the top four with scores of 429 and 425 respectively.
