A northeast Iowa boy, taking part in a religious mission in Texas, died in a weekend traffic accident.

Hudson Hayes, 11, of Dike, died in a two-vehicle crash south of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex early Saturday morning (Dec. 29, 2018).

The accident happened on Interstate 35. According to authorities, Hayes was a passenger in a minivan that had been disabled from a previous collision. The minivan was then struck by a pickup.

Texas authorities report that several vehicles were involved, and at least five others were injured.

Three other occupants of the van, all from northeast Iowa, were treated for injuries. They were identified as Dustin Hayes (Hudson's father), 13-year-old Emma Hayes (Hudson's sister), and Spencer Gull of Garnavillo.

The group was taking part in a Seed Sowers project in Texas, headed to a gospel event in Laredo.
