A weekend accident involving three motorcycles put two Northeast Iowans in the hospital.

It happened just before 4:30pm Saturday (May 21) on Winneshiek County Road W-38, south of Decorah.

43 year old Brian Youngblut of Vinton was going around a curve at the crest of the road, when he drove onto the gravel shoulder. The cycle then entered a ditch and Youngblut was thrown off.

Another motorcyle, driven by 26 year old Jesse Hug of Tripoli, slowed down to help Youngblut, when he was rear-ended by a 3rd bike driven by 65 year old Martin Hubbard of Jesup.

Hug and Hubbard were both thrown to the pavement; none of the riders were wearing helmets. Youngblut and Hubbard were taken by ambulance to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. Hug was treated at the scene.

Total damages to the three motorcycles was estimated at $24,000.
