93 North East Iowa High School Wrestlers Advance to State Tournament

93 North East Iowa High School wrestlers earned their invite to the 2014 Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) Wrestling Tournament. The Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines will host the three-day championship event February 20-22, 2014.  The tournament schedule is listed below.

In Class 3A, Waverly-Shell Rock led the way for all NEI schools with 11 qualifying for the state tournament. Cedar Falls will send three, and Waterloo East and West each will send two.

In Class 2A, Union Community, La Porte City tops NEI schools with seven state qualifiers. Charles City saw six wrestlers. Independece and West Delaware, Manchester will have five contestants.

In Class 1A, Don Bosco, Gilvertville led the way with six wrestlers advancing to the state tournament. Sumner-Fredricksburg will take four to Des Moines, and North Butler, Greene add three wrestlers.

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 20

SESSION 1
(8 mats) 9:00am - 12:15pm Class 2A 1st Round & 1st Round Consolations
Weigh-in for Session 1: 7:00am

SESSION 2
(8 mats) 2:00pm - 5:15pm Class 3A 1st Round & 1st Round Consolations
Weigh-in for Session 2: 12:00, noon

SESSION 3
(8 mats) 7:00pm – 10:15pm Class 1A 1st Round & 1st Round Consolations
Weigh-in for Session 3: 5:00pm

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 21

SESSION 4
(8 mats) 9:00am – 1:30pm Class 2A & Class 3A quarter-finals; then Class 2A & 3A 2nd Round Consolations (Quarterfinal matches will wrestle to completion, with no break between classes, before the 2nd Round Consolations begin. 2nd Round Consolation matches will wrestle on the first open mat with no break between classes.)

Weigh-in for Session 4 (Classes 2A & 3A): 7:00am

SESSION 5
(8 mats) 3:30pm – 6:45pm Class 1A quarter-finals, Class 2A semi-finals & 3rd Round Consolations, & Class 1A 2nd Round

Consolations (Class 1A quarterfinals will wrestle to completion before the Class 2A semi-finals & 3rd Round Consolation matches begin. Class 2A semi-finals & 3rd Round Consolation matches will wrestle on the first open mat. All Class 2A semi-final and consolation matches will wrestle to completion before the Class 1A 2nd Round Consolation matches begin.)
Weigh-in for Session 5 (Class 1A only): 1:30pm

SESSION 6
(8 mats) 8:30pm – 9:35pm Class 3A semi-finals and 3rd Round Consolations
9:35pm – 10:45pm Class 1A semi-finals and 3rd Round Consolations (Class 3A wrestles to completion on the first open mat before Class 1A begins wrestling). There is no weigh-in for Session 6 as all wrestlers already weighed in for the day.

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 22

SESSION 7
(8 mats) 10:00am - 2:15pm Class 2A, 3A, & 1A consolation semi-finals & finals
(Consolation semi-final matches will be wrestled to completion on the first open mat with no break between classes. Consolation finals will then take place on the first open mat with no break between classes.)
Weigh-in for Sessions 7 & 8 (All classes): 8:00am
