A chain reaction accident south of Cedar Rapids, involving six vehicles, sent several people to the hospital.

The crash happened at about 11am Tuesday on Interstate 380. A line of cars was stopped at the 16 mile-marker, waiting for a DOT crew that was painting new pavement markings.

A van driven by 34 year old Christopher Bjork of North Liberty, failed to stop, and slammed into the back of a pickup, pushing it into the back of an SUV, causing a chain reaction accident, that involved a total of 6 vehicles.

Three people were taken to area hospitals for treatment.

The Iowa State Patrol investigated.
