Cedar Falls Public Safety departments will be hosting the 48th Annual Safety City Event.

The 2016 Safety City program will be held this week at the Target Distribution facility in Cedar Falls. The Cedar Falls Police Department, Cedar Falls Fire-Rescue, Wheaton Fransican Hospitals, and Cedar Falls Utilities work in conjunction with Target Corporation to put on this safety event for kindergarten children from all CF schools. The Safety City program was started in 1968.

Over 500 children will attend the safety program learning about fire safety, calling 911, first aid, stranger danger, electrical safety and several other safety facts. Target team members also completed a child ID kit with fingerprints on every child which was sent home with the children.

The Safety City program and related safety materials are funded annually through a grant from the Target Corporation. The Public Safety agencies of Cedar Falls want to thank the Target Corporation for their commitment and support of this popular public education program.

This grant is part of ongoing efforts by the Target Corporation to strengthen families and communities. Since opening its doors, Target has given 5% of its income to organizations that support education, the arts, safe families and communities.
