2015 Iowa High School Volleyball Preseason Rankings

If the preseason rankings are any indication, there should be some strong high school volleyball competition in Northeast Iowa this season. For the second straight year, 16 area teams are featured in the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU) poll, which was released on Monday (Aug. 24, 2015).

With regular season play getting under way this week, Dike-New Hartford begins its quest for a fifth-straight state championship. The Wolverines, who graduated five seniors, begin their 2015 campaign ranked eighth in the Class-2A survey.

Like Dike-New Hartford, the other four defending titlists -- Holy Trinity Catholic (1A), Solon (3A), Harlan (4A) and Ankeny Centennial (5A), are among the teams featured in the preseason poll. None, however, are starting the year ranked at No. 1, due to the loss of key players to graduation.

Leading the 2015 Class-1A preseason rankings are Janesville (No. 1) and Tripoli (No. 2), who are favored to content for the Iowa Star Conference crown. Another league member, Don Bosco, also begins the year ranked among the top 15.

Seven of the 16 teams that compete in the North Iowa Cedar League (NICL) are among those considered to be the best in the state heading into the 2015 season. Joining Dike-New Hartford in the Class-2A poll are Sumner-Fredericksburg (No. 3), Grundy Center (No. 8), Wapsie Valley (No. 11) and Denver (No. 14). The Class-3A poll features NICL members La Porte City Union (No. 3) and Waterloo Columbus Catholic (No. 9).

West Delaware is the preseason favorite to win the state title in Class-4A. The Hawks are ranked No. 1. Waverly-Shell Rock (No. 5) and Charles City (No. 11) are also ranked among the top 15.

Other ranked teams from the area include Cedar Falls (No. 9 in Class-5A), Center Point-Urbana (No. 11 in 3A) and Nashua-Plainfield (No. 15 in 2A).
